Niklas Kronwall started playing in the National Hockey League when he was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings during the NHL Entry Draft in 2000. During the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, he did one season stint with Red Wings' affiliate at AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and received an Eddie Shore Award as one of the top defencemen in the AHL.
